We're in Glen Bogle!
Monarch of the Glen country.

Badenoch and Strathspey - the area of the Highlands from Dalwhinnie and Laggan in the south, through Newtonmore, Kingussie and Kincraig and on to Aviemore, Carrbridge, Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey in the north is 'Monarch of the Glen Country'.

Set in the spectacular scenery of the Cairngorm Mountains in the Highlands of Scotland with walking, climbing, cycling, golf, sailing, whisky trails, wild Ospreys and so much to make this a fascinating area for the visitor.

Much more so, now that the hit BBC TV series 'Monarch of the Glen' has been filmed here.

The series, based on the Highland novels of Compton Mackenzie, was created by writer Michael Chaplin.

Monarch of the Glen is about an extraordinary family in an extraordinary place. It features a bunch of characters that will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

Archie MacDonald (Alastair Mackenzie) is 28 and about to open his trendy new fish restaurant in London with his beautiful girlfriend, Justine (Anna Wilson-Jones). He is an ambitious young man in complete control of his destiny.

Suddenly, one phone call threatens to change his life forever.
Archie unexpectedly finds himself the new owner of one of the largest sporting estates in the Highlands - a feudal landlord over 40,000 acres, 200 tenants, a house which makes Balmoral look like a cottage, and an overdraft to match.

And to make matters worse, his aged eccentric parents, Hector MacDonald (Richard Briers) and Molly MacDonald (Susan Hampshire) come as part of the furniture and the local schoolteacher, the feisty Katrina Finlay (Lorraine Pilkington) is determined to make things for Archie as difficult as possible. There is also the high spirited and fiery cook and housekeeper Lexie (Dawn Steele) for Archie to come to grips with.....

Queen Victoria took her holidays in the Highlands at the grand shooting lodge of Ardverikie on nearby Loch Laggan. Ardverikie Estate, was for centuries, a traditional hunting ground of early Scottish Kings and has the reputation for being one of the best deer forests in Scotland. Nowadays Ardverikie is better known as Glen Bogle.
